A Willmar businessman was sentenced to 18 and a half years in prison Monday for sexually abusing five boys in the 1980’s and 90’s. 68-year-old Peter Hoagland pleaded guilty to a number of criminal sexual conduct charges back in October. The former Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Deputy was convicted of molesting the boys at his home, at his cabin on Diamond Lake, and his place of business, Pete’s Communications. In court the victims called Hoagland evil, said he stole their childhood and violated their trust. Hoagland apologized to his victims saying he was haunted by his actions and had trouble eating and sleeping. Hoagland’s lawyer believes he has grounds for an appeal.
