The president’s top advisor Stillwater-native Denis McDonough is set to visit the Iron Range today (TUE) to get a first-hand look at the struggling steel industry there. Governor Dayton says steel workers in northeastern Minnesota–and throughout the country–need help now. There have been around two-thousand layoffs on the Iron Range in the past year, largely due to the dumping of cheap foreign steel. In addition to seeking help from Washington, Dayton is pushing for a special session to extend unemployment benefits to the laid off workers.
