14-year-old boy killed by family dog in NW Minnesota

December 11, 2020 By Bill Werner

A 14-year-old boy was attacked and killed by a family dog Thursday afternoon outside his home near Amor (AY-more), northeast of Fergus Falls. Sheriff’s Lieutenant Keith Van Dyke says the boy’s father asked law enforcement to check on his son who was outside with the dog, and the boy was found dead in the yard. “At this time, we’re not aware of anything or any calls with that particular animal or that residence [before this],” Van Dyke said. “We get a lot of dog bite calls, but nothing like this.”

Van Dyke says the dog, a long-haired German Shepherd, was still aggressive when a deputy arrived and was shot with the approval of the boy’s family. Authorities say the dog was three years old and purchased out of Poland six months ago.
