The countdown to the Iowa caucuses is here. A week from today, presidential hopefuls are hoping to win big in the first caucus election. Hamline University Political Science Professor David Schultz says what happens in Iowa doesn’t necessarily mirror the rest of the country. He says keep in mind, typically only between four-and-five percent of Iowans turn out to vote. And for the Democrats, they will generally be people who are far more liberal than most Democrats nationwide. And for the Republicans, they will be far more conservative and especially Evangelical religiously conservative. Schultz says the Iowa caucuses are a good first testing ground and often help determine which candidates will move forward for their respective party’s nomination.
