Hennepin County prosecutors have charged 16 people in connection with looting in downtown Minneapolis and other areas during civil unrest Wednesday night and Thursday morning. One defendant, 26-year-old Asante Simmons from Bloomington, faces additional charges for allegedly assaulting an officer who was trying to stop her from stealing goods in an underground parking garage near a footwear store. All but two of the defendants are from the Twin Cities area. Officials say they also plan to file felony charges in a “large number” of additional cases.
