Flags are flying at half-staff in Minnesota today (Tuesday) in observance of the 17th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks. Governor Mark Dayton has proclaimed this “Patriot Day” and “A Day of Service and Remembrance” in the state. At least three Minnesotans were killed in the attacks. Thirty-eight-year-old Thomas Burnett, Junior from Bloomington was on Flight 93 that crashed in western Pennsylvania. Burnett and other passengers reportedly stormed the cockpit and prevented the hijackers from crashing the plane into the White House or U-S Capitol. Thirty-two-year-old Gordy Aamoth, Junior of Hopkins and 57-year-old Gary Koecheler from St. Paul were in the World Trade Center towers when they collapsed. Minnesotans are encouraged to observe the National Moment of Silence at 7:46 A-M to honor the nearly three thousand victims of the attacks.
