Eighteen Minnesota lawmakers are asking Governor Tim Walz to suspend state permits for the proposed PolyMet copper-nickel mine in Hoyt Lakes, until a court determines whether the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency tried to suppress federal regulators’ concerns about pollution risks. Democratic Senator John Marty from Roseville says, “If the permit process was flawed, the permits may be flawed too, and we should pull ’em back until we address these concerns.”
House Republican Minority Leader Kurt Daudt says metro-area Democrats are “spreading misleading and false information” to try to derail “the most thoroughly-reviewed industrial project in Minnesota history.”
