A 20-year-old Bemidji man is awaiting formal charges after a standoff with SWAT and other law enforcement officials early Thursday morning. Police responded to a report of a man threatening family members with a handgun. Prior to officers arriving, the man fled on foot and said “call the cops, I am ready.” After a nearly two-hour search, police found the suspect at a nearby property. The suspect taunted officers saying “he could get off a few shots before they shoot him” and when he did not comply with officers commands, a SWAT member was able to incapacitate the man with “less than lethal ammunition.” After being evaluated a hospital, the suspect was transported to Beltrami County Jail, where he remains.
