A Becker County judge has set bail at 200-thousand dollars for a man charged with manslaughter in the hunting-related death of the former police chief of Lake Park. Jay Nelson was fatally shot the second Saturday of the firearms deer season while driving on a logging trail north of Detroit Lakes. 54-year-old Morris Dodd Junior admitted he shot at a deer, but denies seeing a vehicle or deliberately shooting at any vehicle or person. Prosecutors say Dodd is a danger to the public because he’s a convicted felon who illegally had a firearm. His next court date is December 10th.
