The commercial shipping season kicked off today at the Twin Ports of Duluth and Superior:
“Opening day of the shipping season is like I think opening day of baseball, everybody waits for that first pitch. For us it’s hearing the horns blast for the first time, the Aerial Bridge goes up for the season. We all watched the Roger Blough leave at 7:46 this morning.”
Adele Yorde with the Duluth Seaway Port Authority says the next few days will be busy.
“Eight of the nine vessels that came in for lay-up are all leaving in the course of the next three or four days. And then the Sault Locks will open at Sault Ste. Marie Saturday morning right after midnight.”
Yorde says the Port of Duluth-Superior should see its first arrival from the Sault on Sunday.
