Organizers have cancelled the 2020 Minneapolis Aquatennial, citing not only the COVID-19 pandemic but also the city’s challenges after the death of George Floyd. A statement from the Minneapolis Downtown Council reads, “It does not feel like it is time to celebrate. We want to take the time to honor our community and give space for the important work that needs to be done.” This year’s events were scheduled from July 22 through the 25. An official says they tried to hold off until the last possible minute and the decision was made just yesterday (Wed).
