“Today is a great day for us and all survivors.” That’s the sentiment of abuse survivor Jamie today in St. Paul during the announcement of a $210-million settlement between the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and clergy abuse victims. Attorney for the survivors, Jeff Anderson, says the settlement “not only incorporates accountability and financial accountability, but it actually advances the ball of child protection in a way that’s never really been done before in this country and anything I’ve ever been a part of.” Anderson says it’s about more than the money, it’s about “hope, help, healing and to all of you survivors and all of those colleagues that have worked with us for so long and so hard, courage in pursuit of the truth.” Anderson says the settlement gives the 450 survivors involved–and other victims–a voice. The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis sought bankruptcy protection in 2015 in the wake of hundreds of sex abuse claims against priests.
