Town of McGregor thrilled to host Gov. Fishing Opener

May 13, 2016 By minnesotanews

The town of McGregor, population 391 is buzzing.   It’s the host community  to this year’s Governor’s Fishing Opener on Big Sandy Lake.

Event Chair Lisa Kruse, says this afternoon there will be a community picnic in downtown McGregor, “We’ll have Minnesota Vikings celebrities, all kinds of family friendly events, exhibitors, local sponsorships. It’ll be a great time and free food.”  Kruse says they have been working on the opener for the past 10 months and she hopes everyone will come out and take part in all the events.

For any community wanting to host this event next year, don’t hesitate.  Kruse says while it’s a lot of work, “It’s such a rewarding process. I am thrilled to be the chair.  Very proud of my community. I think it brings a lot of community pride and spirit, you know, hosting a big event like this. So I would say if you have any hesitations, don’t hesitate, apply.”

The 2017 host community will be announced at tomorrow night’s celebration dinner.
