Thirty-two organizations across the state are receiving over seven million dollars to help older Minnesotans stay in their homes. The money from the state Human Services Department is to provide and improve housing for older adults who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Officials say the grants will help those people stay at home instead of moving to nursing homes or other more expensive living quarters. The number of homeless adults in Minnesota increased 8 percent between 2012 and 2015, according to the most recent one-night survey by Wilder Research.
