>>University Of Minnesota and St. Thomas Among Schools Hit by Cyberattack

(Undated) — The University of Minnesota and University of St. Thomas are the targets of a cyberattack. Both educational institutions were impacted by a hacker group that infiltrated a digital platform.  The platform named Canvas is used for online courses, assignments, and other key communication.  St. Thomas officials say the system is back online.  The hacker group has been identified as Shiny Hunters.  The parent company of Canvas says there is no evidence that passwords, dates of birth or financial information were involved.  The Canvas breach has affected close to nine thousand schools and 275 million people worldwide.

 

>>Sanford Health to Acquire North Memorial Health

(Robbinsdale, MN) — North Memorial Health in Minnesota is reportedly being acquired by South Dakota-based Sanford Health.  The deal announced today would invest 600-million dollars in Twin Cities services, including North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.   The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office is asking for public comments on Sanford’s plan to acquire North Memorial.  The A-G will also review the proposed deal under the state’s health care transaction law.

 

>>BCA Updates Shooting of Itasca County Sheriff’s Deputy

(Max Township, MN) — The Minnesota B-C-A is releasing more information about a shooting Monday that injured an Itasca County sheriff’s deputy.  The report says Deputy Michael Cowan was trying to arrest 18-year-old Elias Harper and the deputy’s gun discharged in his holster during the struggle.  Cowan was struck in the thigh and spent the night in Duluth hospital.  Investigators have reclassified it as a conflict case rather than an officer-involved shooting.  Officers at the scene had active body-worn cameras.

 

>>Rep. Robbins Seeks Congressional Help for Information from U.S. Representative Omar

(St. Paul, MN) – Minnesota Representative and Chair of the House Fraud Prevention Committee Kristin Robbins is seeking information from Congresswoman Ilhan Omar on her correspondence with convicted fraudsters with Feeding Our Future. This week, Robbins tried to authorize a motion to subpoena communications between Omar’s office and defendants in the fraud case. Members of the House Fraud Committee rejected that motion. Robbins has now sent letters to Congressional leaders asking for their help in getting Omar to comply with the request.

 

>>Minnesota House Passes Health Bill

(St. Paul, MN) – The Minnesota House passed the health bill by a 69-63 vote. The bill is aimed at restoring accountability to the state’s Medicaid program, strengthening oversight protections and preventing billions of dollars in potential financial penalties for taxpayers. Republicans behind the bill say it restores work requirements and improves eligibility verification for participants to receive the benefits.

 

>>DEED Announces New Initiative to Encourage Support for Small Businesses

(St. Paul, MN) – The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) has announced a new initiative to encourage ongoing support for local businesses. The program is called “Choose Minnesota”, and DEED believes this will also strengthen Minnesota’s economy. DEED will partner with business owners around the state to discuss challenges and opportunities facing small businesses and then identify ways Minnesotans can support these businesses. The first discussion will be Monday in St. Cloud.
