The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have completed the 2026 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, selecting 16 additional players on the second and final day. In all, the Twins selected 21 total players, including: 13 right-handed pitchers, three catchers, four infielders, and one outfielder. The Twins also selected one player out of high school and 20 out of college.

1 (3) Vahn Lackey C R/R 6’2″ 215 7/7/05 Atlanta, GA Georgia Tech Powell
Lackey, 21, hit .397 (87-for-219) with 16 doubles, three triples, 20 home runs, 78 RBI, 85 runs scored, 169 total bases, 50 walks, 85 runs scored, a .519 on-base percentage, a .772 slugging percentage and a 1.291 OPS in 61 games for Georgia Institute of Technology in the 2025-26 season, and his 4.88 defensive WAR led the Atlantic Coast Conference and ranked fourth in the country. He was named First-Team All-ACC, and the ACC Defensive Player of the Year after posting a .993 fielding percentage in his 61 games. He was also a finalist for the 2026 Golden Spikes Award.

Tinney, 21, hit .326 (71-for-218) with 13 doubles, 22 home runs, 58 RBI, 10 stolen bases, 55 walks, 68 runs scored and a 1.171 OPS in 61 games for the University of Texas at Austin last season. Tinney racked up several honors in 2026, including: NCAA Austin Regional All-Tournament Team; ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team; ABCA/Rawlings All-America, Second Team; D1Baseball All-America, Third Team; NCBWA All-America, Third Team; ABCA/Rawlings Central All-Region, Second Team; and All-SEC Second Team. Tinney and Lackey represent the first time in MLB amateur draft history that the Twins have selected catchers with each of their first two picks.

Renfrow, 21, 5-4 with a 4.64 ERA (73.2 IP, 38 ER), 25 walks, 88 strikeouts and a 1.32 WHIP in 15 starts for the Virginia Polytechnic and State University last season. He fanned eight-plus batters in five of his 15 starts and allowed two-or-fewer runs in 11 of the 15.
3 (79) Ethan Wachsmann RHP R/R 6’5” 225 6/6/08 Aurora, CO Grandview HS (CO) Wagoner
Wachsmann, 18, 6-2 with a 2.10 ERA (36.2 IP, 11 ER), 14 walks, 66 strikeouts and a 0.96 WHIP in nine starts for Grandview High School (CO) last season.

LaPour, 21, 1-3 with a 6.35 ERA (17.0 IP, 12 ER), 10 walks, 17 strikeouts and a 1.65 WHIP in six games (four starts) for Texas Christian University last season. The Blue Springs, MO native spent one season at Wichita State University prior to transferring to TCU and pitching there for the past two seasons.

Murdock, 21, went 4-3 with a 5.23 ERA (74.0 IP, 43 ER), 46 walks, 104 strikeouts and a 1.57 WHIP in 15 starts for the University of California San Diego last season. He ranked second in the Big West Conference in strikeouts and set the UC San Diego single-game program record by fanning 17 batters on April 10 at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Lay, 22, went 5-3 with a 3.78 ERA (88.0 IP, 37 ER), 16 walks, 93 strikeouts and a 1.24 WHIP in 16 starts for California State University, Sacramento last season, earning All-Western Athletic Conference First Team honors and being named a semifinalist for the College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Year for his efforts.

Bayles, 21, went 5-4 with a 2.54 ERA (71.0 IP, 20 ER), 44 walks, 104 strikeouts, a 1.30 WHIP and a .190 opponent batting average in 15 starts for Santa Clara University last season, ranking second in the West Coast Conference in strikeouts, opponent batting average and starts.

Burns, 21, went 2-0 with a 5.64 ERA (22.1 IP, 14 ER), 16 walks, 43 strikeouts and a 1.39 WHIP in 23 relief appearances for the University of Texas at Austin last season. The Wisconsin native began his collegiate baseball career at Arizona State University before pitching for the Longhorns the last two seasons.

Raab, 22, went 3-5 with a 6.90 ERA (45.2 IP, 35 ER), 14 walks, 66 strikeouts and a 1.62 WHIP in 11 starts for Georgetown University in 2026. The graduate student earned 2026 Preseason All-Big East Team honors and was named to the 2025 All-Big East First Team and pitched for two seasons at State University of New York at Stony Brook prior to joining the Hoyas.
