Still up in the air as state lawmakers prepare for a special session is a 500-million-dollar bonding bill to augment funding for roads and bridges — something Governor Tim Walz agreed to when Republicans refused to increase the gasoline tax. Democrats need Republicans’ help to pass a bonding bill in the Minnesota House, and Minority Leader Kurt Daudt says, “It is late. I mean, to think that they didn’t talk to us in the minority until the very last day of session, after noon, kind of tells me that they weren’t real serious about getting a bonding bill — but we’re certainly open to considering it.”
Daudt indicates he and Democrats haven’t talked yet about what House Republicans would need to vote for a bonding bill. “We really want to see what’s in all these [other budget] bills, and a lot of that hasn’t been decided yet,” he says.
