Ninety days in jail and two years probation for a southern Minnesota homeowner who fatally shot a fleeing intruder near Madelia. The Star Tribune reports 65-year-old David Pettersen told the court he takes no satisfaction from the death of 19-year-old Nicolas Embertson and will carry that awful responsibility with him for the rest of his life. The judge said he believes Pettersen’s remorse is sincere and the defendant “acted out of fear and maybe some stupidity.” But Embertson’s mother, Tracy McCabe, said Pettersen “consciously took the law into his own hands.”
