972 drivers statewide were cited for texting behind the wheel during a one-week enforcement campaign earlier this month (April 11-17). That’s up from 909 citations during a six-day period last year. In Blue Earth County, two separate officers stopped the same driver twice on the same day for texting and a driver in Elk River who was cited for using social media on his phone had been pulled over for the same offense two days prior. Officials are reminding motorists that it’s illegal to text and drive in Minnesota–even when stopped in traffic.
