Rep. Debra Kiel (R-Crookston)
(St. Paul, MN) — A key committee in the Republican-controlled Minnesota House this morning passed and sent to the floor a controversial bill that would require abortion facilities in Minnesota to be licensed and inspected, if they perform 10 or more procedures per month. Bill sponsor, Crookston Republican Debra Kiel says “women who seek abortions expect safe facilities.” But Rochester Democrat Tina Liebling says the bill will limit women’s access to abortion and force them to seek less-safe methods. Governor Mark Dayton vetoed a similar bill in 2012.
