Activists at the State Capitol Friday night demanded lawmakers pass a bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to obtain drivers licenses in Minnesota. One man said, “If Republicans get together and they put their heart and their faith in action, this is easy. To love and to care and grace is above all commandments in the Bible.”
Backers say the move will make Minnesota roads safer because immigrant drivers will be better trained and more will have insurance. Opponents warn it would allow more illegal immigrants to remain in Minnesota in violation of federal law.
