Activists are urging the state legislature to repeal a law that allows a wolf hunting season in Minnesota, even though it’s no longer in force because a federal judge’s ruling put the grey wolf back on the endangered species list. Doctor Maureen Hackett with the group Howling for Wolves warns at any moment, wolves could lose federal protection by Congressional action — meaning the wolf hunt would automatically be re-activated in Minnesota. She says repealing the state law would mean there’s less risk to wolves if they are again removed from the endangered species list. Supporters of a hunt say the state’s wolf population is stable.
