>>Third Suspect Arrested and Charged in Shooting of North Mankato Teen
(North Mankato, MN) — A third suspect is now charged in the deadly shooting of 17-year-old Tyson Goodsell on May 23rd in North Mankato. Twenty-year-old Abdikhadar Fakhi Mohidin is jailed on multiple counts including second-degree murder, and first-degree assault with great bodily harm. Investigators say Mohidin shot Goodsell multiple times after Goodsell ran over his foot. The Mankato West student was later found dead in his car following a crash. It’s believed the shooting stemmed from a botched T-H-C cartridge deal.

(Duluth, MN) – The Lake Superior Task Force has announced a drug bust that included multiple drugs, cash, and a loaded weapon. Law enforcement says it has been investigating 31-year-old Kwame Mitchell for selling drugs within the Twin Ports. During an execution of a search warrant, the task force says it found almost two thousand grams of methamphetamine, a kilo of cocaine, fentanyl, more than $44,000 dollars in cash and a loaded pistol. Mitchell is being held in the St. Louis County Jail for pending charges of first-degree sale of meth, cocaine and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

(Albert Lea, MN) – Due to a late and unexpected loss of a running mate, Republican state Representative Peggy Bennett of Albert Lea has announced she has dropped out of the governor’s race. In a press release, Bennett says her choice for lt. governor text her a few hours before the filing deadline to say he had changed his mind, leaving her no choice but to end her campaign. Bennett said in dropping out, the decision came with “great sadness and heartbreak.” Bennett is in her sixth term in the legislature and was co-chair of the Education Policy committee.
>>Fire Causes $75,000 Damage to Duluth Housing Building
(Duluth, MN) – Duluth firefighters responded to a fire at a six-unit housing building early this morning. The fire happened around 6:20 a.m. on the 900 block of East Third Street. Fire officials say all the residents were able to self-evacuate. The report says the fire started on a porch and spread into the building. Damage estimates are at least $75,000 in smoke, fire and water damage. Three residents are now looking for a new place to live and are being helped by the American Red Cross. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

(Breckenridge, MN) – A new healthcare, education, and recreation center in Breckenridge in the Red River Valley is getting a $3 million dollar boost thanks to the recently passed bonding bill by state lawmakers. The Infinity Center is a $22 million dollar project, and the community has already raised $17.6 million dollars. The Infinity Center will serve as a regional destination for recreation, school programming and community gatherings. Republican Representative Jeff Backer of Browns Valley led efforts to support the project. He said, “The Infinity Center is more than a community center, it’s an investment in the future of Breckenridge and the entire region.” Lawmakers passed a $1.2 billion dollar bonding bill at the end of the legislative session last month.
