(Amery, WI) — A Minnesota teenager is the victim of a fatal Wisconsin crash. Polk County deputies responded to the crash around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday in rural Amery, Wisconsin. The teen was heading east when they entered an intersection without stopping. A southbound pickup smashed into the driver’s side of the car. Officials say the victim, 18-year-old Marley Mickelsen of Lino Lakes, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger in the pickup were brought to a hospital with serious injuries. No other information is available.

(Moorhead, MN) — A Moorhead woman charged as an accomplice in last Sunday’s deadly drive-by shooting in Moorhead is a psychiatrist working for a Chicago-based behavioral health provider. 32-year-old Dr. Abby Fredrickson once worked at Essentia Health in Duluth and Prairie St. John’s in Fargo. Her psychiatry residency was at the University of North Dakota. Fredrickson and the man charged in the homicide, 39-year-old Jerome Thomas, were arrested in Michigan on Monday. Fredrickson is a native of the city where she and Thomas were arrested. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office will return them to Moorhead.

(Kandiyohi County, MN) — A Kandiyohi County jury has found a Benson man guilty of all charges in a drug-related murder case. The trial for 28-year-old Lateef Mahaffey Jr. began Monday, and on Thursday afternoon, the jury found him guilty of all 6 charges. He and co-defendant Mercedes Carpenter of Maynard were accused of selling drugs to a Willmar man who was later found dead in his bathtub on September 26th, 2022. The cause of death was fentanyl toxicity. Mahaffey was charged with 3rd Degree Murder, 2nd Degree Manslaughter, and Sale of a Controlled Substance, as well as aiding and abetting the same offenses. He will be sentenced on July 14th at 9:30 a.m.

Republican lawmakers sent Evers a budget with a $325 per student increase for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years. Evers deleted the “20” and a dash from “2024-25,” creating “2024-2425.” In a 4-3 ruling, the court rejected a challenge to Evers’ veto, ruling the Wisconsin Constitution allows governors to strike digits to create new numbers. Republicans are outraged, with the State Senate President and Assembly Speaker saying this gives Evers free rein to increase property taxes for 400 years.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Authorities are investigating an overnight crash that ended with a vehicle along the Mississippi River. Robbinsdale police responded to a report of possible domestic assault. The suspect fled by stealing the victim’s vehicle. The victim said the suspect may have a handgun. Police chased the suspect until they neared the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis shortly after midnight. The SUV the suspect drove crashed into the Mississippi River and caught fire. The suspect fled on foot but was quickly arrested and brought to a hospital. The suspect is being held on multiple charges and unrelated warrants for felony charges.

In January, he pleaded guilty to third-degree felony drug charges. Rekieta was found possessing over 10 grams of cocaine during a search of his rural Spicer home on May 23rd, 2024.
