Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell confirmed today (TUES) that 2024 first round draft pick J.J. McCarthy is out indefinitely with a torn meniscus. O’Connell says there is not yet a timetable for surgery, but the team has no plans to rush the Q-B back. O’Connell says, “Certainly what’s best for the long term health of J-J McCarthy will be the priority and I don’t… have that answer and really won’t be a part of determining that answer.” McCarthy made his debut in the first quarter of Minnesota’s preseason game against Oakland Saturday and finished 11-for-17 with 188 yards and 2 touchdowns.

(Rochester, MN) — Rochester police are asking for the public’s help to identify suspects accused of causing thousands of dollars in damage to a Rochester home. Police responded to a call around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, August 3rd, the homeowner describing “several racially motivated statements and symbols painted on and around their home.” Pictures of the suspects are on RPD’s website, and any information can be called in at 507-328-6800. The FBI is assisting in the active investigation.

(Mankato, MN) — A Mankato man with a history of violent crimes is pleading guilty to first-degree attempted murder and felony threats of violence in exchange for several other charges being dropped. The criminal complaint states 35-year-old Dustin Murilla critically wounded a woman while driving a vehicle as he led officers on a high-speed chase in May 2023. The pursuit began after a family member reported seeing Murilla drive on the sidewalk and use meth. The victim suffered 36 stab wounds, 6 of them life-threatening. Murilla was later charged allegedly for attacking an 11-year-old girl the day before the police chase and stabbing that led to his arrest. The victim told officials Murilla tied her up, put a sock in her mouth, covered her head in a sheet to prevent her from screaming, and threatened her with a knife, adding he would kill her and her family if she told anyone. Murilla is scheduled to be sentenced in October – the deal calling for a 20-year sentence.

(Lamberton, MN) — Redwood County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating after a missing man was found in a grain bin early this morning (MON) and pronounced dead at the scene . Deputies went to a Lamberton residence to help search for a missing person. En route, they were told the man had been found inside a grain bin. No other information is being released at this time.

(Undated) — As Minnesotans vote in today’s primary, COPAL just relaunched its Minnesota Latino Vote program, one of the largest election outreach efforts among Spanish-speaking populations in Minnesota. Organizing Director Ryan Perez predicts the Latino vote will play a big role in deciding races in certain districts, especially in the lower half of the state. Perez says, “Southern Minnesota in the last 20 years has been basically the major growth of the Latino community in Minnesota. Places like Austin, Worthington—these are places where Latino voters can and do make a difference in outcomes.” Perez says they hope to make roughly 100-thousand connections through their phone banks and 10-thousand door knocks. Despite some registration gaps, data shows a significant increase in Latino turnout between the 2016 election and 2020.

(Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Twins have added right-handed pitcher Zebby Matthews from Triple-A St. Paul to their roster. On MLB.com, 24-year-old Matthews is ranked as the club’s sixth-best prospect, second among pitchers, and 98th-best prospect in all of baseball. The North Carolina native starts tonight (TUES) against the Kansas City Royals at Target Field as number 52. To make room for Matthews on the 26-man roster, right-handed pitcher Scott Blewett was designated for release or assignment.
