(Eagan, MN) — Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell confirms that rookie quarterback J-J McCarthy is out for the season after undergoing surgery this morning (Wed) on his injured meniscus. O’Connell says it was a successful procedure, but did reveal that a repair was necessary, which he says will end J-J’s 2024 season. O’Connell says McCarthy now looks ahead to recovering from the injury while at the same time continuing to learn the game of football at a high level. Minnesota takes on the Cleveland Browns in its second preseason game Saturday (3:25 P-M).

(Undated) — An air quality alert is in effect for northeast Minnesota until 6 a.m. tomorrow (THURS). The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says the alert is prompted by wildfire smoke in Saskatchewan and Manitoba brought in by northerly winds, with heavy ground-level smoke trapped over Lake Superior. Affected areas include Two Harbors, Hibbing, Ely, Duluth, and the tribal nations of Grand Portage and Fond du Lac. The orange alert means sensitive groups should limit prolonged or heavy exertion and time spent outdoors. DNR officials say burning permits will not be issued or activated today (WED), and campfires are discouraged across Carlton, Cook, Lake, and St. Louis counties.

>>Body Recovered from Minnesota River

(Scott County, MN) — The Scott County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man’s body was found in the Minnesota River Tuesday night. Deputies arrived at the scene following a 911 call just before 8 p.m. and discovered the body of an adult male near the Lewis Street Bridge, just a few feet off shore. The man’s identity and cause of death will be disclosed after a full autopsy. Foul play is currently not suspected, but investigators from several agencies are involved with the case.

(Lamberton, MN) — The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who died after falling into a grain bin early Tuesday morning as 61-year-old Eric Kronback of Lamberton. Deputies went to a Lamberton residence to help search for a missing person. En route, they were informed the man had been found inside a grain bin. Investigation shows Kronback suffered fatal injuries while attempting to remove a small amount of grain from the bin.
