(St. Paul, MN) — Nearly 300 law enforcement agencies across Minnesota will take part in an extra impaired-driving enforcement campaign starting Wednesday through Labor Day. The Department of Public Safety says Minnesota has recorded 62 alcohol-related traffic deaths, 179 serious injuries and more than 13,600 DWI arrests so far this year. Officials are urging drivers to arrange a sober ride before drinking. A DWI conviction can lead to license loss, thousands of dollars in costs, jail time, and mandatory ignition-interlock requirements.
>>Northern Minnesota Wildfire Evacuations Lifted
(Ely, MN) — All wildfire evacuation orders in St. Louis and Lake counties have been lifted as crews continue making progress on fires in northeastern Minnesota. More than 1,600 Boundary Waters campsites are now open, restoring access to about 73% of the wilderness. The Camp Fire is 97% contained, while the Sioux Fire is 55% contained. The July Lightning fires have burned more than 66,000 acres. Drivers should still expect major delays along the Echo Trail as cleanup and fuel-reduction work continues.
>>Former Anoka County Prosecutor Charged in Alleged Prostitution Operation
(Anoka, MN) — A former Anoka County prosecutor is facing 26 felony charges in connection with an alleged prostitution operation. Andrea Sampson is charged with 13 counts of promoting prostitution and 13 counts of receiving profits from prostitution. Investigators allege she supplied locations and created shell companies used to conceal and move proceeds from the operation. Authorities say the network operated in several Twin Cities communities and involved at least 13 victims. Sampson was arrested Friday.

(Moorhead, MN) — Emergency crews are searching the Red River for a person who entered the water Sunday evening in Moorhead and began struggling. Police say the person went into the river around 5:15 p.m. and a friend called 911. Water rescue crews and drone teams are assisting with the search. Authorities say there is no indication of criminal activity.

(St. Paul, MN) – The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is seeking eleven members to serve two-year terms on the Emerging Farmers’ Working Group (EFWG). Minnesotans interested in enhancing opportunities for new and emerging farmers to start or sustain an agriculture business are encouraged to apply. This group was established in 2020 by the state legislature as the first state-level advisory group of its kind in the nation. The group ensures that new farmers have a voice in helping shape state programs, policies, and resources. Applications are due September 14.

>>Minnesota Wildfires Could Benefit Moose, Bears
(Ely, MN) — This summer’s wildfires in northern Minnesota could eventually provide a boost for moose, black bears and other wildlife. As burned forests recover, new saplings, shrubs and berry patches can provide important food sources. A Minnesota DNR scientist says fire may also temporarily reduce winter ticks and parasite-carrying snails that can harm moose. Moose typically sees the greatest benefits three to ten years after a fire, while moderate burns can lead to strong berry crops for black bears within two to three years.
