>>Duluth Man Charged with Fatally Shooting Mother

(Duluth, MN) — A Duluth man is charged with his mother’s murder after allegedly shooting her on Saturday. Court documents say police responded to 46-year-old Nathan Davin’s home around 10:50 p.m. A neighbor called the police after Davin knocked on their door and mentioned a fatality. On arrival, officers found Davin with blood on his hands and his mother, 74-year-old Maedean Davin, dead with a gunshot wound to the face. Multiple firearms were found inside the home. Police say Davin admitted to the murder while alone in an interview room. He’s being held in the St. Louis County jail. 

 

>>Burnsville Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Killing His Mother

(Burnsville, MN) – A 58-year-old Burnsville man was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole following the murder of his 82-year-old mother. Troy Mitteness was found guilty of premeditated first-degree murder and intentional second-degree murder in the killing of his mother, Sandra Mitteness. Court records show Mitteness spent his mother’s money and thought she was getting suspicious. He is being held at the Dakota County Jail awaiting transfer to the Department of Corrections.

(Le Sueur, MN) — The Le Sueur-Henderson community is mourning the loss of a long-time police officer. In a post to Facebook today, the Le Sueur Police Department says Officer Karl Haugen passed unexpectedly while off-duty. Haugen joined the Le Sueur Police Department in 2008, contributing to both part-time and full-time responsibilities. The post continues, saying, “He was an important part of the department’s dynamics and will be sincerely missed.” Funeral arrangements are pending. 

 

>>Rochester Daycare Worker Sentenced for Cutting Child with Pizza Cutter

(Rochester, MN) — A former Rochester daycare worker accused of cutting a child with a pizza cutter faces eight years in prison. 27-year-old Andrianna Newburn was found guilty in June on seven charges, including assault, child torture, and terroristic threats. Police responded to the assault on June 13th, 2024, at KinderCare Learning Center. Newburn got into an argument with her coworker and threatened to cut her with the pizza cutter. She then swung the cutter at her coworker’s two-year-old daughter, who suffered multiple lacerations to her face, one requiring surgery. Newburn will get credit for 430 days already served. She also faces a felony third-degree assault charge for allegedly attacking an inmate with a tablet at Olmsted County Jail last month. 

 

>>UMN Service Workers Ready to Strike if No Deal Before Midnight

(Undated) — University of Minnesota service workers are preparing to strike. Teamsters Local 320, which represents the workers, says they met with the university on Thursday and Friday for mandatory strike mediation. Over 24 hours later, an agreement was not reached. Teamsters say the university refuses to give them real wage increases, higher shift differentials for night workers, and better working conditions. The university has until midnight tonight; otherwise, the decision to strike will be made. This comes as students move back onto campus beginning next week.

 

>>Pro-Palestine Advocates Rally Outside Gov. Walz’s Residence

(St. Paul, MN) — Tonight, advocates for divestment from Israel will speak and rally outside Governor Tim Walz’s residence in St. Paul, demanding to know why the State Board of Investment (SBI) keeps pushing off its quarterly meetings. The SBI is required to meet four times a year. Its third-quarter meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, but since pro-Palestine groups announced plans to pack the room, the meeting was postponed to at least October. This is the fourth consecutive SBI meeting that was postponed, canceled, or held with limited public comment. Local advocacy groups have called for a ceasefire in Gaza and state divestment from Israel at these meetings since November 2023.

 

>>Falcon Heights to Charge for Street Parking During State Fair

(Falcon Heights, MN) — Starting Thursday, Falcon Heights will charge $25 per day for street parking during the Minnesota State Fair.  The new paid parking plan affects about a dozen streets and 1,000 spots near the fairgrounds.  The move will help cover costs tied to hosting the fair — including waste cleanup and portable restrooms.

 

>>Minnesota Natives Are Candidates For Olympic Men’s Hockey Team

(Undated) — 11 players with Minnesota ties will get a chance to try out for the U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team. Orientation for the 2026 Winter Olympics begins next Tuesday in Plymouth, Michigan. There will be 44 NHL players among the group. New York Rangers coach Mike Sullivan will coach the Olympic team.

 

>>Shakopee’s New Music Venue Named the Mystic Lake Amphitheater

(Shakopee, MN) — Live Nation’s new outdoor music venue coming to Shakopee next summer finally has a name, the Mystic Lake Amphitheater. Officials say it will seat 19,000 people and create over 700 permanent jobs. The amphitheater will sit on 37 acres of land that used to be owned by Canterbury Park.
