(Superior, WI) — A Duluth man is missing after leaving to ice skate in Superior, Wisconsin, on Sunday. Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies say 78-year-old Gregory Garmer left his Duluth home around 1 p.m. to skate at Woodstock Bay and did not return. Garmer was last seen wearing a red hooded jacket, black pants, a hat, gloves, and a scarf. Anyone around the Billings Park area or by the St. Louis River who may have seen something is asked to call their local officials.

 

>>Two People Dead in Stearns County Crash 

(Stearns County, MN) — Two Minneapolis residents are dead after a crash in Stearns County Saturday. State Patrol responded to the crash report around 2:37 p.m. on I-94, about two miles west of Albany. A pickup truck and car were eastbound when the car rear-ended the truck. The car driver and her passenger, 42-year-old Sarah Jones and 15-year-old Kate Olson, were killed in the crash. The truck driver was unharmed. Neither of the victims wore a seatbelt.

 

>>Police ID Victim in Fatal Rochester Home Shooting

(Rochester, MN) — The 28-year-old man shot and killed in Rochester this weekend has been identified. Officers found Demetrious Tankhamvang with a gunshot wound around 1 a.m. Saturday. Despite lifesaving aid, he died at the scene. Investigators say the person who called 911 reported that he had shot a man who entered his house and assaulted him. The homeowner was taken into custody and later released. Police say the two knew each other.

 

>>Moorhead Man Sentenced to 36 Years in Prison for Murdering Half-Brother

(Moorhead, MN) — A Moorhead man faces 36 years in prison for the stabbing death of his half-brother, 29-year-old Dustin Momerak in March 2023. Douglas Swenson entered an Alford plea, acknowledging there would be enough evidence to convict him but maintaining his innocence. Momerak was found mutilated and nearly decapitated in a Moorhead apartment the two men shared.

 

>>MFD Determines Fatal August Fire was Set Intentionally 

(Minneapolis, MN) — Minneapolis fire officials now believe an August apartment fire that killed two people was set intentionally. On August 13th around 9:42 p.m., fire crews responded to a fire at a four-story apartment building in south Minneapolis. Two people died, four were injured, and dozens were displaced.

 

>>Republican Candidate in MN House District 54A Files Election Contest

(St. Paul, MN) – A lawsuit filed by the Republican candidate in Minnesota House District 54A contests the results and calls for a new election. A recount determined DFL Representative Brad Tabke of Shakopee won re-election by 14 votes over GOP challenger Aaron Paul. But, Scott County election officials lost 21 absentee ballots and said they were likely thrown away. Paul’s lawsuit claims they violated election law, making it impossible to determine which candidate won the November 5th election. He adds the 21 ballots are “significantly more than would be needed to change the results.” The Minnesota House is currently tied 67-67.

 

>>Deer River Essentia Health Workers Prepare for ULP Strike 

(Deer River, MN) — After seeing no movement following a five-day strike in early November, Deer River Essentia Health workers are preparing for an open-ended Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strike beginning next Monday if no agreement is reached. The group represents 70 hospital workers and those in nursing home/long-term care divisions. Bargaining began in August about key issues like allowing non-unit workers to do work that “undermines longtime union workers” and “substandard wage proposals that don’t recognize essential work done or inflation.” The groups are set to bargain on Wednesday.

 

>> Upper Mississippi River Navigation Season Now Closed

(St. Paul, Minn.) — It’s another sign of the changing seasons. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers says the last barge of the shipping season passed through Lock and Dam 2 over the weekend. This signals the end of the 2024 navigational season on the Upper Mississippi River, which began on March 17th. Now, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers can perform maintenance work on the locks and dams. The St. Paul District is responsible for the 13 locks and dams from Minneapolis to Guttenberg, Iowa.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Democratic Senator Omar Fateh is running for Minneapolis mayor. The mayor and all 13 council seats are up for reelection in 2025. 34-year-old Fateh says current mayor Jacob Frey and his council are “failing Minneapolis residents.” Only one council member, Jeremiah Ellison of Ward 5, has announced they will not seek reelection.

(Buffalo, MN) — One Minnesotan’s holiday season just got merrier after a North 5 ticket worth nearly $119,000 was sold at a Buffalo Kwik Trip. The winning five numbers for the December 1st drawing are 3, 6, 13, 14, and 17. The store it sold at also gets a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. The North 5 jackpot for today is an estimated $25,000.
