>>1 Dead, 12 Residents Displaced by Wadena Apartment Fire 

(Wadena, MN) — One person is dead and 12 residents are displaced after a fire destroyed an apartment building in Wadena. Firefighters discovered heavy flames coming from an upstairs window late Sunday night, and the subzero temperatures made their efforts more difficult. Four fire trucks and two ladders froze up while they battled the fire. Crews were on the scene until Monday afternoon. Officials say one person was found dead in the building. The 12 other occupants were taken to a local motel. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

(Burnsville, MN) – The Burnsville community turned out today to honor and remember three first responders killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic violence call one year ago. Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann (JUNG’-min) says, “We are saddled with the weight of continuing to remember the sacrifice our 3 fallen brothers made while continuing to serve the community. We have committed to never forgetting them and to never stop supporting our fallen heroes’ families.” Killed in the line of duty were Burnsville Officers Paul Elmstrand, Matthew Ruge (ROO’-ghee), and Firefighter/Paramedic Adam Finseth.

 

>>4 Arrested in Violent Minneapolis Crime Spree

(Minneapolis, MN) — Four men, two adults and two juveniles, are in custody related to a violent Minneapolis crime spree. One week ago, officers responded to six separate incidents within two hours, including two shootings, two burglaries, a carjacking at gunpoint, and shots fired. Two people were injured by gunfire. The suspects, 34, 19, and two 17-year-olds, were identified in the past week, and search warrants led to their arrests.

(St. Paul, MN) – A new poll shows that 55% of Minnesotans are now in favor of adding an Equal Rights Amendment to the state constitution. During the last session, the measure passed the House but stalled in the Senate. For this session, Democratic Senator Mary Kunesh says, “We are up to more unique challenges around…but I think what it will take is some really good conversations and understanding at what’s at risk both in the Senate and the House.”

 

>>Republicans File New Ethics Complaint Against Senator Mitchell

(St. Paul, MN) – Senate Republicans are filing a new ethics complaint against Democratic Senator Nicole Mitchell in her ongoing legal case. Mitchell is charged with two felonies for breaking into her stepmother’s home last April. The complaint states that Mitchell voted on her behalf during a recent expulsion hearing, resulting in a 34-33 vote. GOP Senator Steve Drazkowski says her conflict of interest should result in “loss of employment as a Senator and would immediately end access to the salary and benefits afforded to a legislator.” Republicans say the Subcommittee on Ethical Conduct must review the complaints within 30 days. MNN reached out to Democrats to get their reaction, but they have not returned our messages.

 

>>Former Fargo CEO Faces Bank Fraud 

(Fargo, ND) — A former Fargo CEO faces four counts of bank fraud. 29-year-old Daniel Lindgren, who worked for construction company Shorestone Development of Fargo, is accused of writing himself nearly 300 checks from July 2022 through October 2024, totaling over $2.7 million. He’s also accused of making multiple unauthorized charges to a company credit card.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Legendary singer-songwriter Paul Simon is playing three shows in Minnesota this spring. Simon is bringing his ‘A Quiet Celebration’ tour to the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis on April 20th, 22nd, and 23rd. 83-year-old Simon said he was retiring from touring six years ago due to hearing loss. Simon performed “Homeward Bound” with Sabrina Carpenter on the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary celebration last weekend. Tickets for the Orpheum shows go on sale this Friday.
