>>Minneapolis Man Pleads Guilty to Fatal Edina Mall Shooting, Gets 25.5 Years

(Edina, MN) — A Minneapolis man involved in a fatal shooting at an Edina strip mall in 2023 has taken a plea deal. 23-year-old Kayvon Madison pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder and was sentenced to 25 and a half years in prison. The December 2nd shooting killed 23-year-old Darius Roberson. Madison shot him in the face and chest after claiming Roberson “came at him.” Both were at a mutual friend’s birthday party, but the two had a falling out a few years ago. Madison will be sentenced on April 23rd. 

 

>>Stewartville Man Charged with Felony Punishment, Assault of Baby

(Stewartville, MN) — A Stewartville man faces felony assault and child punishment charges. Rochester Police first heard the reports of a seven-week-old baby with a broken tibia and femur on February 6th. The child’s mother claimed she fell down the stairs while holding the baby, then changed her story to indicate the father may have caused the injury. The 42-year-old suspect admitted to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office that he likely hurt the baby’s leg while trying to dress him, then asked the mother to make up a story. 

 

>>3 Convicted Felons Indicted on Illegal Reentry Charges

(Minneapolis, MN) — Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa Kirkpatrick has announced several indictments against convicted felons for illegal reentry charges. Those indicted include 35-year-old Luis Gomez-Esteban, who was removed in 2019 following his conviction for several child molestation charges and failure to register as a sex offender upon his return; 33-year-old Jose Ojeda-Garcia after a criminal sexual conduct conviction and being removed three times in 2012, 2021, and 2022; and 37-year-old Sotero Ortiz-Sanchez, who was initially removed in 2009 after an attempted burglary conviction. ERO and ICE are investigating all three. 

 

>>3 Suspects Charged in Itasca County Meth Bust 

(Grand Rapids, MN) —  Three people face felony charges in connection with a drug bust last week in the Grand Rapids area. The Aitkin-Itasca-Mille Lacs Violent Crimes Enforcement Team found 118 grams of methamphetamine, 32 ounces of meth water, a rifle with ammunition, and 103 thousand dollars during multiple searches. Officers arrested 69-year-old Steven Storrs of Grand Rapids, 45-year-old Joe Stariha of Grasston, and 30-year-old Alexie Charboneau of Sandstone. They are all jailed on drug charges and Storrs is also accused of storing meth in the presence of a child. 

 

>>Joann Closing All Locations

(Hudson, OH)  —  Fabric and craft store chain Joann is closing all of its locations. The company made the announcement today. A liquidator has agreed to buy all of Joann’s assets and going-out-of-business sales will be held at stores. This comes after Joann had announced plans earlier this month to close around 500 stores. Joann was founded in 1943 in Ohio. There are currently 12 Joann stores in Minnesota. 

 

>>Big Lottery Wins in Hastings, Lake City

(Roseville, MN) — Two Minnesotans saw big lottery wins this weekend. A $50,000 Powerball ticket was sold at a Hastings Speedway for Saturday’s drawing, and an almost $95,000 North 5 jackpot-winning ticket was sold at a Lake City Kwik Trip for Friday’s drawing. The Kwik Trip earns a $949 bonus for selling the winning ticket. Both winners have one year to claim their prizes.
