(St. Paul, MN) — A man has been sentenced to over 37 years in prison for a drive-by shooting that left one person dead and two injured. In June 2023, Jenup Chop fired over 20 rounds from a handgun at a vehicle, killing the driver, Gumdel Gilo, and injuring Shelissa Bentzin and Isaiah Johnson. Chop also fired at a witness on a motorcycle, who pursued him and his co-defendants. In December 2024, Chop entered guilty pleas to second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree attempted murder.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A Minneapolis man is charged with attempting to provide material support to ISIS. Officials say in December 2024, Abdisatar Hassan tried to travel from Minnesota to Somalia to join ISIS on two occasions, neither of which were successful. The FBI and Minneapolis Joint Terrorism Task Force found Hassan publicly supported ISIS on social media and encouraged others to join. An investigation revealed Hassan praised Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the suspect of the January 1st ISIS-inspired terrorist attack in New Orleans, Louisiana. Hassan was arrested and charged on Thursday.

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is advocating for a plan aimed at making health care more affordable in the state. He introduced the proposal Thursday in St. Paul. Walz’s plan would transfer the state’s portion of reinsurance responsibilities from taxpayers to insurers. This change specifically targets the individual insurance market, which covers people who are not insured through their employers and are not eligible for Medicare or Medicaid.  Additionally, the governor is proposing to raise the surcharge applied to health maintenance organizations from 0.6 percent to 1.25 percent of total premium revenue. Walz believes this adjustment will ensure that large healthcare corporations contribute their fair share.

(Marshall County, MN) — A Viking, Minnesota man faces charges of arson, terrorist threats, obstructing legal process, and assaulting a peace officer. Marshall County deputies say Dillon Berg was kicked out of his home and returned very intoxicated. He started a fire near a grill, threatening to open a propane tank and cause an explosion. A deputy put out the fire with a hose. Berg then grabbed the hose and doused the deputy. He was arrested without injury. Berg’s bail is $200,000.

(Huntington Beach, CA) — Former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe is seeking new employment after being arrested during a protest earlier this month in Southern California. He announced that he was fired yesterday from his position as the special teams coach at Huntington Beach Edison High School. Kluwe stated that school officials informed him that the campus was attracting too much attention, leading to his dismissal. On February 18th, Kluwe took the podium during a council meeting to oppose a plaque that supported President Donald Trump. After sitting on the floor in protest, he was arrested. Kluwe plans to challenge his firing and is exploring his options with the ACLU.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A recent study highlights that Minneapolis is one of the most affordable cities for singles to live in, ranking third in the nation according to a RentHop report. The survey assessed apartment rental rates by comparing median non-family income with the median list prices of studio apartments. Wichita, Kansas, tops the list as the most affordable city for singles, followed by Columbus, Ohio. In contrast, New York City is identified as the least affordable place for single individuals to live.

(Los Angeles, CA) – Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards will not play in tonight’s game at Utah. The NBA suspended Edwards one game without pay for getting his 16th technical foul of the season in last night’s 111-102 loss at the Lakers. Ant was called for two technical fouls in L-A and was automatically ejected on the second one. No word on whether he’ll be fined for throwing the ball into the stands.
