(Minneapolis, MN) — A woman and dog mark the first fire fatalities of 2025 in Minneapolis. Crews responded to a two-and-a-half-story apartment fire Tuesday at 6:32 p.m. Firefighters began searching the second floor, finding heavy black smoke but no fire. Crews evacuated an unconscious woman and dog found on the floor of a unit. Lifesaving aid was given, but both were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials found a smoldering couch fire to be the probable cause.

(St. Paul, MN) – For the second straight day, House Republicans held a session with their Democratic counterparts still absent. The DFL did file a lawsuit asking the Minnesota Supreme Court to declare that Republicans acted unlawfully by organizing their own quorum. When asked about the lawsuit, Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth says she’s “happy to have those conversations,” but hasn’t heard any answers. The House adjourned after going through procedural measures on the floor. They will be back in session at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon.

(IA) – “Make Minnesota Iowa Again” – a bold cry from Republican Iowa Senator Mike Bousselot who wants to buy the nine Minnesota counties on the state’s southern border. Bousselot, chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, says it’s a very serious and realistic proposal, citing Indiana’s speaker, who announced Tuesday they’re looking to buy 33 Illinois counties. He claims it “wouldn’t change the electoral math for either state, “and that these “agricultural, conservative, and farming counties would fit into Iowa’s culture.” Democrats like House Minority Leader Jennifer Konfrst say buying part of Minnesota would be an inappropriate use of Iowa tax dollars. Bousselot has not said how Iowa would pay for Minnesota’s counties.

(St. Paul, MN) — A man faces several felony charges after shooting at St. Paul police officers Monday during a traffic stop. Officers attempted the stop around 11 p.m. on I-94. The driver, 27-year-old Samuel Flowers, shot at officers with an AR-style rifle, luckily injuring no one. Police say Flowers used steel-tipped bullets that pierce body armor, and the gun was reported stolen in 2018. Suspected fentanyl and cocaine were seized from Flowers’ person.

(St. Cloud, MN) — A man is in custody for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Stearns County. Deputies booked 33-year-old Dillon Wallace on Monday after a search warrant for charges filed last April. Wallace is accused of sexually assaulting the victim in 2023 when he lived in Albany. The victim told authorities Wallace raped her three separate times, harassed her through calls from different phone numbers, and threatened to hurt her and tell her parents. Once this investigation began, Wallace began “couch hopping” in Michigan. He’s due in court at the end of the month.

(Olmsted County, MN) — A former Olmsted County deputy has been sentenced to almost 20 years in prison for possessing child sexual abuse materials (CSAM). 46-year-old Matthew Adamson was indicted on producing CSAM on April 11th and originally pleaded not guilty but changed his plea later on. Court documents say between 2015 and 2023, Adamson produced CSAM with 12- and 13-year-old girls and secretly recorded video in the changing room of the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center.

(MSP, MN) — The TSA (Transportation Security Administration) reports 52 guns were prevented from making it through the security checkpoint at MSP (Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport) in 2024. This is one less than in 2023. That’s significant due to the airport seeing an 8.3% increase in travelers last year.
