>>BWCA Mining Concerns

(St. Paul, MN) — Congress is moving to overturn a Biden Administration ban that protects the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. DFL State Senator Grant Hauschild says even if Congress acts, the issue is far from settled. “There’s a long way to go despite this legislation at the federal level. There’s still an entire permitting process, mine plan that would have to be determined, so we have to let that process play out.” Opponents of the mining say studies show copper‑nickel mining could permanently damage the BWCA’s waters and wildlife, and pose a risk to people who use the area for recreation.
