>>Two Federal Agents Placed on Leave After Shooting of Alex Pretti

(Minneapolis, MN) – Two federal immigration agents involved in the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis have been placed on administrative leave. U.S. Customs and Border Protection says that’s standard protocol. This comes one day after the Department of Homeland Security released its first official timeline of the incident, which made no mention of Pretti brandishing a weapon, despite earlier claims from senior administration officials. President Donald Trump has called the situation “terrible” and says he wants an “honest” investigation.

 

>>U.S. AG Bondi in Minneapolis, Announces 16 MN Arrests

(Undated) – U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi says she’s in Minneapolis today and that federal agents have arrested 16 people. In an X thread, Bondi says 16 “Minnesota rioters” are in custody for allegedly assaulting federal law enforcement. She says she expects more arrests to come, and “NOTHING will stop President Trump and this Department of Justice from enforcing the law.” Bondi also posted the names of each person arrested and pictures of most of them. 

 

>>St. Paul Mayor Her Meets with U.S. Border Czar Homan

(Saint Paul, MN) – St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her says she met today with U.S. Border Czar Tom Homan and his team to discuss the ongoing ICE surge in Minnesota. This is one day after Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey spoke to Homan. Her says she shared concerns about the harm the surge is having on the city and emphasized the important role immigrants and refugees play in the community. She called the leadership changes and renewed communication with Minnesota officials “promising steps” toward building trust, ensuring accountability, and finding a resolution.

 

>>Hennepin County Attorney Moriarty Updates Case Against Rep. Omar Attacker

(Undated) – One day after the attack on U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar during a town hall event, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty gave an update on the case. She says the investigation continues both locally and federally. Preliminary reports show the liquid sprayed on people was not toxic. Charging options are being reviewed, and Moriarty says the federal government may charge the man as well. The man who sprayed the liquid at Omar is currently booked into the Hennepin County jail and facing a third-degree assault charge.

 

>>Wheaton Man Dies in Western Minnesota House Fire 

(Wheaton, MN) – Authorities in western Minnesota say a Wheaton man died in an early morning house fire. The Traverse County Sheriff’s Office and Wheaton Fire Department were called to the home around 4 a.m. today. Fire crews found 63-year-old Kevin Kruise inside the home and tried to save him, but he died in the hospital. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting local officials with the investigation.  

 

>>Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Staples Crash

(Staples, MN) – A 28-year-old man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by an SUV in central Minnesota. State Patrol says Tyler Schreck of Richmond was hit around 9 p.m. Monday while he was in the roadway at a highway intersection in Staples. Troopers say a westbound Jeep, driven by 55‑year‑old Susan Horstmann of Staples, hit Schreck. Horstmann was not hurt. The crash remains under investigation.

 

>>Tom Morello, Rise Against Headline Anti-ICE Concert at First Ave

(Minneapolis, MN) – Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Rise Against are headlining an anti-ICE show Friday afternoon at First Avenue in Minneapolis. It is billed as “A Concert of Solidarity & Resistance To Defend Minnesota!” Jazz fusion guitarist Al Di Meola, Ike Reilly, and an unnamed very special guest are also scheduled to play. All proceeds go to the families of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. Doors open at 10:30 on Friday morning, and the music starts at noon. 

 

>>Normal Temps Expected in MN This Weekend

(Undated) – More normal temperatures are expected to return to Minnesota this weekend. National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologist Joe Strus says warmer air will move in Saturday with highs in the teens and around the 20s into Sunday and early next week. Strus says temperatures statewide have been below normal since last week.   

 

>>National Speaker from West Point Coming to SCSU Holocaust, Genocide Education Center

(St. Cloud, MN) – Lessons from Holocaust perpetrators and Peacekeepers in Rwanda will be the topic of a discussion next month at St. Cloud State University. SCSU’s Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education will welcome a nationally accredited keynote speaker on Wednesday, February 11th. Director Emil Towner says, while this event has been in the works for about a year and a half, it is a timely topic. He says, “It may seem like they’re in the past, but hatred, bias, antisemitism, racism, and dehumanization haven’t disappeared…and studying those events helps us recognize those dangers.” The speaker is David Frey from West Point, who founded West Point’s Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies and teaches courses to military cadets. He’s also testified before the Senate, appeared on 60 Minutes, and advised government agencies on mass atrocities, human rights, and more. 

 

>>Duluth Sen. McEwen Running for Re-election

(Duluth, MN) – Duluth Senator Jen McEwen announced today she is running for re-election. The Democrat will be seeking a third term in the Minnesota Senate. McEwen is a founding member of the legislature’s Reproductive Freedom Caucus and is the chair of the Senate Labor Committee. She is also a member of the Environment, Energy, and Transportation committees. In 2022, she won re-election with 71% of the vote. McEwen is the only candidate in this race so far.
