(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Walz has signed an executive order creating a new state fraud investigation unit. Walz says the opportunity for fraud is always present. He adds these
are not just financial crimes against the state and the taxpayers. These are crimes against children, and what we’ve seen in Minnesota is these crimes have targeted programs that either feed children or help children in need. It’s simply unacceptable. The order creates a centralized investigations unit housed within the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) to fight fraud in state programs. Walz says the state can continue to be generous but ensure safeguards are in place.

(Shakopee, MN) — A woman from Shakopee was sentenced to 11 years in prison for selling a fatal dose of drugs to a man from Litchfield during the summer of 2023. A Meeker County judge sentenced 27-year-old Jaimee Traylor to 132 months at the women’s prison in Shakopee after a jury found her guilty of third-degree murder last September. The 60-year-old victim died from toxicity caused by fentanyl, methamphetamine, and xylazine. He believed he was buying cocaine.

(Andover, MN) — The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) is urging the public again to look for an Andover teen who’s been missing for over a year. Trinity Fisher was 15 when she disappeared on December 20th, 2023. She was described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 130 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. Officials believe Fisher may still be in the Andover or Twin Cities areas.

(Fergus Falls, MN) — A Fergus Falls home took an estimated $10,000 in damage after a fire Thursday. Crews responded to the home around 2 p.m. on a report of a basement fire. The resident tried to extinguish the fire but fled once the smoke and fire became overpowering. The cause is considered unintentional, caused by heat from a metal fireplace chimney that ignited wood framing.
