(Minneapolis, MN) – The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office and Attorney General Keith Ellison have announced a joint effort to collect and preserve evidence to support the investigation into the killing of 37-year-old Renee Good in Minneapolis. The decision was made after the FBI rescinded its cooperation agreement with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to investigate the shooting by an ICE agent. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said, “I have been on the phone and in meetings with law enforcement, justice leaders, and elected officials discussing ways to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation can occur and be shared with our office.” Moriarty is asking residents to submit any photos and videos that can he helpful to the investigation.

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith are calling on the Department of Justice and the F.B.I. to coordinate with state and local law enforcement in the investigation of the fatal ICE shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good. Klobuchar and Smith made the request through a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi. The letter states it’s important that the investigation be “thorough, objective, and impartial.” They reminded the attorney general that state law enforcement worked closely with federal authorities following the assassination of House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and the Annunciation Catholic Church mass shooting.

(Undated) – Education Minnesota is giving ICE a clear message: stay out of our schools. President Monica Byron said they have seen ICE agents circling school property, students assaulted, and educators detained. Byron said, “Beyond the physical danger, ICE’s actions directly undermine teaching and learning. Just in the last two days, an elementary school was placed on lockdown, and schools in Minnesota’s largest city were forced to close. That’s two days of learning our students will never get back.” Byron said they have heard reports from parents who are scared to send their kids to school in fear of ICE in Bloomington, Fridley, St. Paul, Minneapolis, Columbia Heights, Burnsville, Richfield, West St. Paul, Osseo, Apple Valley, Roseville, St. Cloud, St. James, and Rochester.

(Minneapolis, MN) – Minneapolis Police are investigating a fatal shooting in the city’s north side. Officers responded around 9:21 p.m. Thursday, when they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the shooter fled before officers arrived. Chief Brian O’Hara called the loss of life “tragic” and said investigators are working to follow leads and bring justice for the victim’s family. No arrests have been made.

(Detroit Lakes, MN) – A Detroit Lakes woman has died after a shark attack in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Authorities say 56-year-old Arlene Lillis was swimming at Dorsch Beach in St. Croix when she was attacked and lost an arm before succumbing to her injuries. The Virgin Islands Police Department is investigating the incident.
>>Governor Orders Flags Lowered for Milaca Firefighter
(St. Paul, MN) – Governor Tim Walz has ordered all U.S. and Minnesota flags to fly at half-staff at state buildings in honor of firefighter Andy Ziegler of the Milaca Fire Department. Ziegler served 15 years with the department and tragically passed away on Sunday, December 28th. The flag order is from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, January 10th. Ziegler was a husband, father, and grandfather. Walz said Ziegler lived every day with “courage, compassion, and commitment to others that few could match.”

(University Park, PA) – The Golden Gopher men’s hockey team is playing a Big Ten series this weekend at ninth-ranked Penn State. Minnesota hasn’t played a conference matchup since a two-game split with Ohio State on December 4th and 5th. Gopher coach Bob Motzko, Brodie Ziemer, and LJ Mooney spent the last month with the U.S. World Junior team. Minnesota is off to a disappointing 8-10-1 start this season.
