Shortly after a brief “Over the Top” rally, Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman David Hann had the floor, saying, “Minnesota, the first state to fight to preserve our nation in 1861, today, to preserve our nation again, we Minnesotans proudly pledge all 39 of our delegate votes for our next president, Donald J. Trump!” Even as the roll call of the states was underway, Trump announced his choice for his vice presidential running mate: Republican Senator J.D. Vance from Ohio. North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum was among the finalists but didn’t get the nod.

(White Earth, MN) — The body of a missing man on the White Earth Reservation has been found. Tribal police say 38-year-old Michael Annette, who had been missing since July 2nd, was found Saturday. The case remains under investigation. An autopsy is being done to determine the cause of death.

(Minneapolis, MN) — One man is dead, another man and woman injured, after a shooting in northeast Minneapolis Sunday. Officers responded to reports of a shooting around 9:45 p.m., on arrival, finding one man with life-threatening gunshot wounds on the ground. The man was brought to HCMC, where he later died. A man and woman with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds were found inside a vehicle left at the scene and brought to HCMC. Two women have been arrested in connection with the incident. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is identifying the man’s name and cause of death.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A man died in the hospital Friday after being shot in north Minneapolis last Monday. Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation around 11:30 p.m., and while en route, the call was upgraded to a shooting. Officers found a 29-year-old man with a life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was brought to North Memorial Medical Center, where he died from his injuries four days later. No arrests have been made. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to identify the man and cause of death.

(Hibbing, MN) — A 38-year-old man is dead after an ATV incident early this morning near Hibbing. Police say the victim was found around 5:30 a.m., just north of Hibbing Cinema 8. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office is working to identify the man and cause of death.

(Red Wing, MN) — A Red Wing man has pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of his infant son. Officials say 28-year-old Hunter McCutchen met the baby’s mother in November 2021, moving from Rochester to Red Wing in April 2023. The following month, law enforcement was called to the couple’s residence on a report of an infant not breathing. The baby was taken to a Red Wing hospital, then airlifted to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, where it later died. Evidence of Shaken Baby Syndrome was found among the infant’s injuries. In evidence produced at trial, an audio recording of a cell phone conversation between McCutchen and the child’s mother depicts McCutchen admitting to shaking the baby after becoming overwhelmed. His sentence hearing is scheduled for September.

(Hopkins, MN) — A man with a history of abuse charges pleaded guilty this morning to the second-degree murder of his ex-girlfriend, 33-year-old Danicka Bergeson, while under a restraining order. 40-year-old Matthew Brenneman also admitted to a pair of aggravating factors: committing the crime in the victim’s bedroom and with particular cruelty. Brenneman’s plea deal gives him 23.75 years in prison. He’ll be formally sentenced on August 23rd.

(St. Paul, MN) — Keanu Labatte of Granite Falls is facing more than seven years in prison for holding his girlfriend captive in a Minnesota dorm room. The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal sexual conduct. He admitted to assaulting and choking the victim in her St. Catherine University dorm back in September of last year. Labatte will be sentenced in November.

(Rochester, MN) — Five teens, all male, ages 15–18, face multiple charges, including assault and disorderly conduct, after allegedly assaulting a man in a Rochester parking lot Friday. Police say a 30-year-old man was there to meet someone he had been messaging on a dating app. When the person said that they were 15 years old, the man said he was not interested and went to his car to leave. The group of teens allegedly threw things at him, called him names, and punched him.

(Arlington, TX) — Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa will not play in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game Tuesday night due to a foot injury. Correa has missed the last two games with a sore heel but is traveling with his family to Texas for the event. Twins utility man Willi Castro is a first-time All-Star selection this season. Minnesota resumes play Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers at Target Field.
