(Minneapolis, MN) — One man is dead following a shooting in north Minneapolis this morning. Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation around 2:24 a.m., finding a man with a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been made. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is identifying the man’s name and cause of death.

(Staples, MN) — A Frazee man is dead after a front-end loader rolled on top of him north of Staples. The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office says 79-year-old John Berger died at the scene around 6:15 p.m. Thursday on a county road. No other information has been released.

(Undated) — Today, Representative Betty McCollum joined the growing numbers of Democrats calling for President Joe Biden to drop out of the race. McCollum endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in his place and suggested Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Democrats agreeing with her include Representatives Angie Craig, Mark Pocan of Wisconsin, Chuy Garcia of Illinois, Mark Veasey of Texas, and Jared Huffman of California. This comes a day after former President Donald Trump accepted the Republican presidential nomination. Governor Tim Walz has yet to give up on Biden.

(St. Paul, MN) — A Stockton woman has been indicted for mail fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering after stealing nearly $1 million from business owners through a multi-year sophisticated scheme. Court documents say 62-year-old Tammy Wadsworth was the founder and owner of the Pain, Injury, and Brain Centers of America (a.k.a. PIBCOA), a national franchise organization that provides microcurrent therapy for diseases. After Wadsworth claimed PIBCOA’s equipment could treat specific diseases, not just underlying conditions, and promised a “great source of revenue,” franchise owners paid her around $60,000 to $250,000 each to open PIBCOA franchises. From May 2017 through January 2024, Wadsworth trained participants to use the equipment, but the treatment was unsuccessful and caused additional injuries to patients and owners.

Last month Minneapolis submitted its bid to host the famed festival touting its infrastructure, its “thriving theater district” and its inclusivity. Today the Sundance Institute announced its six finalists, and it didn’t include Minneapolis. The six finalists are Atlanta, Georgia, Boulder, Colorado, Cincinnati, Ohio, Louisville, Kentucky, Park City/Salt Lake City, Utah, and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
