(St.Paul, MN) — The Minnesota State Patrol is bringing in a third-party expert to conduct a full security assessment of the Capitol complex. Department of Public Safety Commissioner Bob Jacobson says they’ll take the recommendations seriously. “We, as the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, law enforcement in general, are going to continue to do our very best. We are going to learn from this, and there are things that we can do better. I can tell you that when they can tell us where we can do better, where the gaps are, how we can improve, we will take those and we will do that.” Jacobson says he’s been hearing from lawmakers — and that feedback, he says, is key to keeping the Capitol safe.

(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is calling in the Minnesota National Guard to assist with the response to a cyberattack on the City of St. Paul. City officials said the incident is impacting access to some internal and online services. The governor’s order says,” The magnitude and complexity of the cybersecurity incident have exceeded the city’s response capacity.” Mayor Melvin Carter said it was a “deliberate, coordinated, digital attack, carried out by a sophisticated external actor, intentionally and criminally targeting our city’s information infrastructure.”
>>State Troopers ID 16-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in Marshall Crash
(Marshall, MN) — The Minnesota State Patrol is identifying the 16-year-old boy killed in a motorcycle crash in Marshall. Troopers say Jaron Kramer was riding southbound on Highway 23 Monday afternoon when he rear-ended an SUV. The report says Kramer died at the scene, and it’s unknown whether alcohol was involved. The S-U-V driver wasn’t hurt.

(St. Paul, MN) – Governor Tim Walz has scheduled two special elections to fill Senate seats for Tuesday, November 4. The seats were vacated following the death of Senator Bruce Anderson of Buffalo and the burglary conviction of Senator Nicole Mitchell of Woodbury following her resignation. The two special elections cover Senate Districts 29th and 47. If needed, special primary elections for the nomination of candidates will be held on Tuesday, August 26th. Interested candidates must have their nominating petitions filed between July 30th and August 6th.
>>ATV Driver Suffers Critical Injuries in Redwood County Crash
(Morgan, MN) — An ATV rider is hospitalized in the Twin Cities after a crash near Morgan in southwest Minnesota. The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office says the driver rolled the four-wheeler Monday evening and suffered critical injuries. The victim was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale for treatment. Sheriff’s deputies are still investigating the incident.

(Falcon Heights, MN) — Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Darryl Hall is playing the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand on August 28th with special guest the Rascals. Hall is one half of the Grammy Award-winning duo Hall & Oates and host of the “Live from Darryl’s House” show. The Rascals are also Rock & Roll Hall of Famers who had seven top 10 hits in the 1960s, including “Good Lovin.” This show replaces the cancelled Steve Miller Band concert. Tickets for Darryl Hall and the Rascals go on sale Friday morning.
