(Eden Lake Township, MN) — A 25-year-old Eden Valley man, Elder Josue Salgado Gonzalez, died Tuesday after a medical emergency inside a tanker trailer at Lang Feeds in Eden Lake Township. Meeker County authorities say Gonzalez was cleaning the 42-foot trailer with a hose when he became unresponsive and fell in. He was found in about 1.5 feet of water, pulled out, and taken to Paynesville Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

(Maplewood, MN) — Today marks the 60th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid being signed into law, but Minnesota Governor Tim Walz says Medicaid is facing one of its toughest chapters yet. During a visit to a hospital in Maplewood, Walz warned that federal cuts under the Trump administration could have devastating consequences. “We are now dealing with the potential for the first time in those 60 years, a real threat to Medicaid’s future is looming… 140,000 people will lose their access to that care and about $1.1 billion.” The governor says many of those costs will fall to the state, and they’re not accounted for in the current budget.

(Anoka, MN) — Some small business owners in Minnesota are sounding the alarm over the Trump administration’s proposed tariffs, especially those in the coffee industry. Amber Bullock, owner of Metta Coffee in Anoka, says prices have already surged. She says, “In anticipation of these tariffs… the average bag of wholesale unroasted green coffee beans that used to cost me $94 in January is now costing me $150.” Bullock says the price hike forced her to raise menu prices, costing her some loyal customers. One-third of the coffee beans used in the U.S. come from Brazil. Starting Friday, President Trump plans to impose a 50% tariff on Brazilian imports.

(St. Paul, MN) — St. Paul remains under a state of emergency as a cyber attack stretches into its second day. City officials shut down digital infrastructure after disruptions were first noticed Friday, when Wi-Fi went down at City Hall, libraries, and recreation centers. Mayor Melvin Carter says critical systems—including 911 and emergency response—are still operational. He’s brought in two cybersecurity firms to assist with recovery efforts and is working closely with the FBI. Governor Tim Walz activated the National Guard’s cyber protection unit yesterday to support the response. So far, there’s no confirmation on whether residents’ personal data has been compromised.

(Duluth, MN) — Garfield Avenue will roar to life this September as Duluth’s legal drag racing event returns for another high-octane weekend. The races are set for September 27th and 28th, marking a comeback after a five-year pause during the Twin Ports Interchange construction. The Duluth Drag Races began in 2007 and drew 125 racers and thousands of fans in 2019. (Two Harbors, MN) – For the second time this month, a beach in Two Harbors has tested positive for E. coli. Agate Bay Beach was found to have elevated levels of the bacteria. The Department of Health says the samples showed the possible presence of fecal contamination on Monday. Three beaches in Duluth also tested positive. They are Lafayette Country Club Beach, Sky Harbor Parking Lot Beach, and Beach House. The Department of Health says when swimming, you should not swallow the water, shower before and after swimming, stay out of the water if you’re feeling sick, and avoid swimming after rainfall or if you see blue-green algae. If you become ill from the water, report it to the Minnesota Department of Health.
