>>Rochester Man Fatally Shot in Public, No Arrests Made

(Rochester, MN) — A Rochester man is dead after being shot in broad daylight this morning. Police responded to the shooting at an apartment building around 11:30 a.m. Officers found the man, who died at the scene despite life-saving measures. No arrests have been made. Police say the investigation is active and open.

(Undated) – President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” is heading to the President’s desk to be signed. Laura Mortenson with the Minnesota Budget Project warns that this bill includes devastating cuts to Medicaid that could affect more than a million Minnesotans. She says more than half of Minnesotans in nursing homes rely on Medicaid, it covers three out of every ten births, provides health support to K-12 kids, and supports people in affordable housing and childcare systems. The House of Representatives passed the bill in a 218-214 vote.

 

>>Aspirus St. Luke’s Pull ULP Strike Notice, Deal Pending

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) members working at Aspirus St. Luke’s Hospital are canceling their Unfair Labor Practice (ULP). After negotiating for more than thirty hours, nurses say significant movement was made across the bargaining table. Details will be shared once the agreement is finalized. Union nurses in the Twin Cities have also reached agreements. Members of Essentia Duluth/Superior hospitals and Essentia East Market Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are scheduled to have ULP strikes on July 8th and 10th, respectively.

 

>>Polk County Man Gets 10 Years of Probation for Sexually Assaulting a Minor

(Crookston, MN) — A Polk County man will spend the next decade on probation for sexually assaulting a minor. For second-degree criminal sexual conduct, 33-year-old Basargin entered a Norgaard plea in May, which acknowledges there’s likely enough evidence to convict him. He claims he can’t remember the crime because he was drunk. Basargin must complete a psychological-sexual evaluation and follow any recommendations made.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) asks residents to avoid consuming a brand’s delta-9 hemp gummies due to mislabeling and THC content above the legal limit. Officials say testing of the “Oreoz” flavor of BAK8d delta-9 THC gummies showed that an individual gummy was 20 times more potent than the 5mg serving on the label, and the flavor was not as advertised. Four additional flavors by BAK8D may be affected by the advisory. If you become ill after consuming these gummies, contact your health providers or Poison Control.

(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is leading a trade mission to Switzerland and Germany in November. The Minnesota delegation will visit major business centers in Zürich, Düsseldorf, and Berlin. The governor’s office says the mission will focus on growing the state’s exports of goods and services, developing new partnership opportunities, and strengthening existing trade and diplomatic ties. Walz says Germany and Switzerland both offer excellent opportunities for Minnesota businesses to expand their exports.

 

>>1st Minnesota Regiment Honored for Key Role in Gettysburg 162 Years Ago

(Gettysburg, PA) — The 1st Minnesota Regiment will always be remembered for driving back a Confederate charge during the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3rd, 1863. The 262 soldiers were ordered to charge into a brigade of about 1,2000 men on this day 162 years ago. The unit from Minnesota suffered 215 casualties, 47 were killed,121 were wounded, and 47 were missing. The 1st Minnesota Infantry Regiment is honored by three monuments at Gettysburg National Military Park. The main one is a bronze statue of a charging soldier on a 32-foot granite base.

 

>>U.S. Navy Highlights 3 MN Members for Duluth Navy Week Activities

(Duluth, MN) — The U.S. Navy is highlighting three of its Minnesota members for celebrating the Navy’s 250th birthday this year during Duluth Navy Week. The men are being honored for leading activities, which began on Monday. From Blaine, Machinist’s Mate (Auxiliary) Second Class Gabriel Gullickson helped out in a crafting activity, while Chief Cryptologic Technician (Interpretive) Arthur Halcyon of Shakopee and Cmdr. Nehkonti Adams of Burnsville spoke at an outreach event about their jobs. The week helps the Navy Talent Acquisition Group Northern Plains, which covers Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Wisconsin, and North and South Dakota, bring in potential recruits.
