>>Minnesota Poll: Biden has narrow lead over Trump, fueling by central metro counties

(Undated) — The latest Minnesota Poll shows President Joe Biden with a narrow lead over former President Donald Trump — 45-to-41 percent — mostly fueled by Biden’s huge advantage in Hennepin and Ramsey counties in the central metro, while Trump leads everywhere else. Carleton College analyst Steven Schier says Trump could still win Minnesota because his supporters are more enthusiastic than Biden’s. But Schier says on the other hand, “you have to keep in mind that the D-F-L — the Democratic Party — has a lot more resources for getting-out-the-vote and contacting voters than does the state Republican Party, and that certainly will help Biden.” Seven percent of poll respondents said they were undecided, while six percent support independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Junior. The poll was conducted June 3rd through the 5th and has a margin-of-error of plus or minus three-and-a-half points.

>>Taconite freighter that took on water near Isle Royale might not have hit something underwater

**PRONOUNCER**
(Sault Ste. Marie, MI) — The U-S Coast Guard says the Great Lakes freighter that suffered damage near Isle Royale this weekend and limped into Thunder Bay might not have hit something underwater as originally thought. Lieutenant Joseph Snyder with the U-S Coast Guard says the initial report was that the 689-foot Michipicoten struck a submerged object. But Snyder says, “Once we got a little bit more information and we got a little bit better communication with the crew, we determined that that was not necessarily the cause of the incident. It hasn’t been ruled out, but it is not confirmed to have been the case at this point.” The ship, carrying taconite from Two Harbors, started taking on water Saturday morning in U-S waters about 35 miles southwest of Isle Royale. Half of the 22-member crew was evacuated as a precaution and the vessel proceeded to Thunder Bay. Officials say none of the cargo was lost.

>>Minneapolis community meeting tonight on plans for burned-out Third Precinct police station

(Minneapolis, MN) — There’s a community meeting tonight (530-730pm) in Minneapolis (at the American Indian Center on East Franklin Avenue) on plans to redevelop the site of the burned-out former Third Precinct police station which was destroyed during riots after the murder of George Floyd just over four years ago. City officials are proposing a new “democracy center” at that location, housing the Elections and Voter Services office which is currently leasing space in northeast Minneapolis. They say the office would be more centrally located for voters: on a number of transit lines, walkable and bicycle-friendly and with ample free parking. Officials also plan what they term a large space for community use. In November, the Minneapolis City Council approved construction of a new Community Safety Center, including MPD Third Precinct headquarters, a few blocks north of the burned-out site. Cost was estimated at 14 million dollars and officers were expected to be in place within a year.
