(Undated) — MN-DOT says Highway 19 from Henderson to Highway 169 in south-central Minnesota will likely close either later tonight (Mon) or tomorrow due to flooding on the Minnesota River. Motorists should monitor 511mn.org for the latest information. Flood warnings have been issued for LeSueur, Scott and Sibley counties. A flood watch remains in effect for much of Minnesota through tomorrow, prompted by a fairly active wet pattern the last several weeks and more in the forecast. Meteorologist Brent Hewett with the National Weather Service in Chanhassen says they are closely monitoring the Crow and Minnesota rivers, but their tributaries and a lot of the smaller streams will likely see rises first.

(New Haven, CT) — Slain Minneapolis Police Officer Jamal Mitchell is being remembered today (Mon) in his hometown of New Haven, Connecticut. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara told mourners at Mitchell’s public memorial that he was “truly a guardian” in our community. “Jamal was very intentional about being a role model to our young people. That’s what he did in Minnesota,” said O’Hara. “And I’ve said this before [and] I’ll continue to say it: It is not how Jamal died that made him a hero, it’s how he lived his his life.” Chief O’Hara told the story about Mitchell going into a burning home to rescue a couple during his third day on the job. He was laid to rest this afternoon in a private ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery in New Haven, Connecticut.

(St. Paul, MN) — Ramsey County officials say they’re continuing a long-standing program by making free gun locks available at all public libraries. County Attorney John Choi says it’s a a good basic safety measure, particularly with school out and more children at home while their parents are working. Choi says, “In our county we’ve had some just really tragic things that have happened. We had an 11-year-old who was shot in the face accidentally by… [a] 3-year-old. We had a four-year-old who shot himself in the hand.” A gun safe-storage bill advanced through the legislature but died toward the end of the 2024 session.

(Moorhead, MN) — Police in Moorhead have arrested a man and seized about 10 pounds of meth during a drug bust. It’s the result of a search warrant executed by city, county and federal officers. Investigators say 45-year-old Cory McKay of Moorhead was trafficking drugs from out-of-state. McKay has a lengthy criminal record and is being held in Clay County Jail.

(St. Joseph, MN) — A bicyclist was killed in a collision with a vehicle in the central Minnesota community of St. Joseph Friday night. The name of the 74-year-old man from St. Joseph has not officially been released.

(Rochester, MN) — Police say a passerby on Saturday morning discovered the body of a 28-year-old man lying in the grass in a Rochester park. Officials say no obvious signs of trauma or injury were present at the scene. The Southern Minnesota Regional Examiner’s Office is working to confirm the man’s identity and cause of death.

(Grand Teton National Park, WY) — A St. Paul man has gone missing while kayaking in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park Saturday. Park officials say a 43-year-old man was kayaking with a friend on Jackson Lake, leaving from Colter Bay at midday and heading for Waterfalls Canyon. The friend lost sight of the man around 2 p.m. and about six hours later, rangers found the missing man’s kayak, paddle, and bag floating near Mosse Island.

(McLeod County, MN) — A Glencoe man is dead and three others injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday in McLeod County at an intersection on the Highway 212 detour. The driver, 80-year-old Thomas Casey, died of his injuries. Three people in the other car, from Arizona, were brought to a local hospital for treatment. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
