(Duluth, MN) — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating the death of an inmate at the St. Louis County Jail in Duluth. Around 9:35 this morning, officials responded to a 911 call reporting an unresponsive inmate in their cell. Despite immediate life-saving aid by jail staff and reinforced by first responders, the man was pronounced dead. His cause of death is unknown, and his identity is pending notification of next of kin.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A woman who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and five counts of second-degree assault will spend almost 24 years in prison for the death of 16-year-old De’Miaya Broome. 22-year-old Latalia Margalli is accused of driving her vehicle into a crowd of people in Minneapolis, killing Broome and seriously injuring five others on September 24th, 2024. Broome was critically injured and brought to a hospital, where she died. Investigators and witnesses say Margalli purposely drove her car into the crowd after two arguments, one with a man she knew, followed by a group defending that man. She gets credit for 284 days already served.

(St. Paul, MN) — A man faces 14 felony charges for a crime spree that began with a carjacking in St. Paul on Friday. Police responded to reports of a carjacking around 9:30 p.m. The victim told officers he was parked outside a home and waiting for a friend to come outside when a man, later identified as Eric Hill, pointed a gun at him, forced him out of the car, and fled in the vehicle. Both the victim’s friend and his mother saw the carjacking. Around five minutes later, officers responded to a multi-vehicle crash with injuries and gunfire. Police saw that Hill had rear-ended the stolen car into another vehicle before taking the driver’s wallet at gunpoint. Hill then walked into traffic, shooting at random cars. No one was injured. While trying to steal another car, officers attempted to arrest Hill. He fled on foot but was quickly handcuffed after an officer tackled him. Hill has seven prior felony convictions. There was also an active arrest warrant from the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) at the time of the spree.

(Rochester, MN) — A Blue Earth County man is in custody after allegedly throwing a knife at a Rochester police officer. 20-year-old Kyle Walding faces multiple charges, including second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. Authorities say he fled from an apartment on Monday, then returned armed with a knife and threw it at an officer before running off again. Walding was arrested nearby a short time later.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A record 72.2 million Americans are expected to hit the roads, the skies, and the rails for the July 4th holiday week. AAA says almost 62 million of those travelers will be driving to their destination. The holiday travel period runs from this Saturday, June 28th, until Sunday, July 6th. AAA’s best advice is to make sure your car is in good running order. During last year’s holiday period, they answered more than 5,000 calls for roadside emergencies in Minnesota, like dead batteries, flat tires, and empty gas tanks.
