(Brooklyn Center, MN) – The F-B-I is offering a 150-thousand-dollar reward for information that leads to a man accused of stealing millions of dollars in the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme.
Federal investigators have been looking for 47-year-old Said Abdullahi Ereg of Minneapolis for two years. F-B-I agents say Ereg enrolled his grocery and deli in the federal child nutrition program and claimed to serve 1.4 million meals to kids in need. He’s charged with using 4.2 million in federal funds to bankroll his family and send money to foreign accounts.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota is proposing a 3.8% tuition increase for resident students for the 2026-27 academic year. University leaders say the increase is in line with inflation and remains below tuition hikes at many peer institutions. Officials say the proposal is intended to balance affordability for students with rising operating costs and flat or declining state funding. The university also notes that, when adjusted for inflation, tuition across its five campuses is about 16% lower than it was a decade ago. The Board of Regents is expected to vote on the tuition proposal as part of the university’s budget package on June 26.

(St. Paul, MN) – Governor Tim Walz held a signing ceremony for the $1.2 billion dollar bonding bill Friday afternoon. Walz and invited guests used a St. Paul bridge as a backdrop. This was the second straight year state lawmakers passed a bonding bill. Last year, the bill amounted to $700 million dollars. The bill includes money for public safety, clean water, transportation and housing. The governor said once the funding is allocated, it’s important the statewide projects are done “on time, under budget and making sure the work on them is safe.”

(St. Paul, MN) – The Minnesota Department of Revenue has announced guidance for homeowners for a one-time increase to 2025 Homestead Credit Refunds of nearly 15 percent. This was part of the tax bill passed by state lawmakers and signed by the governor last month. The Revenue Department says if you have already filed for your Homestead Credit Refund, you do not need to take action. The department says it will adjust those returns. If you still need to file, the department is updating its online filing system, and you can file for your refund up until August 16, 2027. You may qualify for the refund if you are a Minnesota resident with household income under $142,490, you owned and lived in your Minnesota homestead on January 2, 2026, the property is classified as your homestead, and you have no delinquent property taxes.

(Undated) – Minnesota hospitals got some relief this legislative session, but key priorities were left behind. The Minnesota Hospital Association says a bill aimed at lowering drug costs failed in the House. Senior Policy Director Michelle Benson says the proposal would have expanded access to discounted medications under a federal program, savings she calls significant for hospitals statewide. Benson says workforce challenges also remain, with rising staff leave making it harder to maintain patient care. Still, lawmakers did approve funding to keep HCMC operating, along with 30-million dollars for critical access hospitals and 13 million in rate increases.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has approved new rules aimed at encouraging more energy-efficient homes while continuing to provide reliable natural gas service. The decision requires regulated gas utilities to develop updated energy conservation programs that promote higher-efficiency new homes, including the use of heat pumps instead of traditional central air conditioners. The commission also directed Xcel Energy to study dual-fuel heating systems that combine electricity and natural gas to lower emissions and manage energy costs. In addition, new limits were placed on how far utilities can extend natural gas lines to new residential customers, with regulators monitoring long-term gas usage trends across the state.

(Minneapolis) – The Minnesota Twins will hold a special pregame ceremony this Sunday to honor the Annunciation Church and School Community. The ceremony will feature Annunciation faculty, staff and students along with members of the Twins Community Fund. The team says there will be a special announcement made for the school. The ceremony will begin at 12:45 p.m. before the Twins – Kansas City Royals game at 1:10 p.m.
>>DNR Holds Take a Kid Fishing Weekend
(Undated) – Minnesota lakes and rivers could be jumping this weekend. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is hosting Take a Kid Fishing Weekend. The DNR allows adults to fish without a license this Friday through Sunday as long as they take a child 15-years-old or younger with them. This weekend also coincides with the DNR’s pause in fishing license sales due to Minnesota’s new electronic licensing system that begins Tuesday. Take a Kid Fishing Weekend happens in June which is also Great Outdoors Month in Minnesota.
