(Willmar, MN) — Willmar police are searching for a missing 17-year-old. Anlatayla Ames of Oakdale was last seen leaving a Willmar group home around 4 p.m. on April 22nd. She’s described as Black, 5 feet 2 inches tall, 130 pounds, with brown hair styled in long blue-tipped braids and brown eyes. Ames was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, black and white cow-print pants, and black slippers.

(Elk River, MN) — Authorities are searching a landfill in Elk River today for a missing teen from Columbia Heights. Sixteen-year-old Jordan “Manny” Collins Jr. was last seen on May 8th. The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office says law enforcement remains committed to using all available resources to conduct a thorough investigation to find Manny Collins and bring answers to his family. They are not providing any further information about today’s efforts at the Waste Management Landfill.

(St. Paul, MN) – After reaching a budget agreement with Republican and Democratic leaders, Governor Tim Walz has announced he’s calling a special session to begin on Monday, June 9th. Walz says, “The bipartisan budget agreement makes thoughtful reductions in state spending while keeping us on track to make Minnesota the best state in the country to raise a child.” Legislative leaders have agreed with the governor, saying they think they can pass the budget with only a one-day session. The special session starts Monday at 10 a.m.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Derrick Thompson, the man accused of killing five women during a getaway crash in Minneapolis two years ago, is guilty on all 15 counts of criminal vehicular homicide. The verdict came back today after jury deliberation began Thursday. On June 16th, 2023, officials say Thompson was hitting speeds of over 95 miles per hour while fleeing a state trooper. He ran a red light and struck a vehicle carrying five young Somali women, all of whom died on impact. Thompson’s defense tried to pin his brother Damarco as the driver, and Damarco testified against Derrick. There was also cocaine and fentanyl found in his car at the time of the crash. The victims are Siham Adan Odhowa, 19; Sahra Liban Gesaade, 20; Sabiriin Mohamoud Ali, 17; Sagal Burhaan Hersi, 19; and Salma Mohamed Abdikadir, 20.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) are charging a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officer with possessing child pornography. Court documents say 52-year-old Anthony Crowley of Minnetonka knowingly possessed one or more matters containing visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit behavior. Minnesota U.S. Attorney Joseph Thompson says his office “has zero tolerance for people in positions of trust and authority who abuse children.” Crowley appeared in court today and will remain in custody pending further appearances.

(Rochester, MN) — A Pipestone woman accused of cutting a child with a pizza cutter at a Rochester daycare center is guilty. A jury found 26-year-old Andrianna Newburn guilty of seven felony counts, including child torture and terroristic threats. Newburn was arrested around 4 p.m. on June 13th, 2024, at a KinderCare Child Care Center for cutting another employee’s child. The 14-month-old child had to undergo surgery. Newburn will be sentenced on August 18th.

University of Minnesota (UMN) School of Kinesiology lecturer Katie Schuver says there are physical benefits to getting kids outside. Those include improved cardiovascular health, stronger bones and muscles, and the development of motor skills. Schuver says getting kids outside at a young age also establishes lifelong good habits when it comes to exercise. Children and teens ages 6 to 17 should get at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily.
