(St. Paul, MN) – After nearly four hours of debate, the Minnesota House passed the bill to block illegal immigrants from acquiring health insurance through Minnesota Care. The vote was 68 to 65, which included DFL Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman, who kept her agreement and voted in favor of the bill. The bill now moves to the Senate. Once it passes there, it heads to the governor for his signature. The bill would terminate health insurance coverage for undocumented adults as of January 1, 2026. Their children would still be covered.

(Austin, MN) — An Austin man has been accused of threatening to blow up the Minnesota Capitol and several other buildings. Jonathan Nique faces eight counts of possessing firearms without serial numbers. The weapons were seized from his garage late last month. Police report that Nique mentioned placing explosives in several high-profile locations, including Mayo’s Gonda building in Rochester, the Olmsted Government Center, the State Capitol, and a synagogue. He later claimed he was joking about the threats but expressed regret for making such comments.

(St. Paul, MN) — A repeat offender with a long history in tribal, state, and federal courts faces over nine years in court for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl. Court documents say in September 2024, Bobbe Donnell of Redby bought around 454 grams of meth and 100 grams of fentanyl in Minneapolis. He then drove the drugs back to Red Lake Nation to sell. Donnell was stopped by a Minnesota State Trooper in Morrison County for a traffic infraction and arrested after a probable cause search of his vehicle. He was also on supervised release for 2022 federal convictions of owning obscene material with the intent to sell.

(Cannon Falls, MN) — Reports of a person yelling for help and gunshots drew a significant law enforcement response to the Cannon Valley Bike Trail Sunday evening, but there was no evidence of a shooting. The Cannon Falls P-D was urging the public to stay away from the area, and authorities searched from the ground and by helicopter and drone. Investigators say they did not locate any victims during the search. The initial report indicated that a person was calling for help and possibly unresponsive on the bike trail.

(Kandiyohi County, MN) — Kandiyohi deputies are searching for a missing man from Spicer. 29-year-old Phillip Iverson was last seen on Saturday. He’s believed to be endangered. Iverson is described as white, with brown hair and eyes, and wears black glasses.
