Walz said the layoffs would hurt students in Minnesota. He also criticized Education Secretary Linda McMahon for her lack of awareness of what programs are being cut. Yesterday, the Department of Education started the layoff process. They expected to cut half of their workforce.

(Becker, MN) — State Patrol has named the Big Lake man who died in a motorcycle crash near Becker Monday night. A Sherburne County Sheriff’s deputy tried to stop 18-year-old Deke Sibley for a traffic violation on Highway 10 when his bike collided with a pickup. Truck driver 75-year-old Douglas Laramore of Minneapolis suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

(Rochester, MN) — Rochester Police released new details on Monday’s stabbing. Eric Fields Jr. was arrested for allegedly stabbing the victim. He faces two felony assault charges. The victim says Fields Jr. was a family member staying overnight when he entered the victim’s room while the victim was sleeping and stabbed him. The victim tried to leave through the apartment’s front door, but Fields Jr. restrained him. Surveillance video shows the victim collapsing in the hallway and Fields Jr. leaving the apartment. He was later arrested at the Government Center in a Toyota Camry. Fields Jr. denied knowing the victim, claiming they were just friends, and it was three days since he last saw him. His court date is March 26th.

(Getty Township, MN) — A teen driver is hospitalized with serious injuries after his vehicle left the road, going airborne 350 feet before landing in a plowed field in Stearns County. The incident happened Tuesday afternoon in Getty Township, southwest of Sauk Centre. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says the 16-year-old boy was airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital. No one else was inside the vehicle.

(St. Louis Park, MN) — Homicide charges in Hennepin County have been dismissed due to the defendant’s death. 38-year-old Jeremy Sherman was accused of hitting two pedestrians and killing one while driving high on cocaine in St. Louis Park on December 30th. Attorney Mary Moriarty dismissed the case last week after learning Sherman died. His cause of death is unknown. The victims, a 60-year-old and 51-year-old Manes Thach, were crossing the street from their workplace when they were hit. Thach was killed.

(Norfolk, NE) — A St. Peter man faces drug possession charges after a traffic stop in Nebraska. State Patrol says 40-year-old Coty Weber was stopped near Norfolk, Nebraska, around 7:20 p.m. Friday. Troopers searched his pickup after seeing marijuana inside, turning up 252 pounds of weed inside the truck’s cab and bed.
