>>NSPPD Search for Missing 16-Year-Old

(North St. Paul, MN) – North St. Paul police are looking for a 16-year-old boy. Javonte Schoonmaker was last seen leaving a Maplewood address on his skateboard Friday at 3 p.m. He’s described as Black, five feet three inches, 150 pounds, bald, with brown eyes. Schoonmaker was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black sweatshirt, black athletic pants, and a silver cross necklace. His family has not heard from him.

 

>>Gov. Walz Presses Secretary Noem For Answers Surrounding Immigration

(St. Paul, MN) – Governor Tim Walz sent a second letter to U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem today, demanding immediate answers about children detained by federal immigration agents and the continued surge of federal law enforcement in Minnesota. Walz says, “Families deserve to know where their kids are. Communities deserve transparency. The continued refusal to provide answers is unacceptable, and I will not stop demanding accountability and transparency until every child is accounted for and returned home.”  

 

>>Hennepin County Attorney’s Office Launches Evidence Portal to Investigate Federal Agents

(Minneapolis, MN) – The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office is rolling out a new evidence portal as part of its Transparency and Accountability Project. The initiative is aimed at closely examining allegations of unlawful conduct by federal agents and pursuing accountability when warranted. The project is staffed by prosecutors and a civilian investigator. County Attorney Mary Moriarty says her office is currently investigating 17 incidents involving alleged misconduct by federal agents. 

 

>>Senate Republicans Announce Tax Relief Proposals

(St. Paul, MN) – Senate Republicans announced several bills today to provide tax relief for Minnesotans. The bills address three areas to save money: wages, property taxes, and buying a car. Senator Julia Coleman of Waconia says, “Families are getting priced out of their homes; hourly workers want to keep more of what they earn, and drivers are tired of their tab fees that never seem to go down.” The bills would put a cap on property tax increases, end taxes on tips and overtime, and reduce the fees for license tabs. Right now, the current budget forecast shows a surplus for the next four years through 2029.

 

>>Vaccine Bill Coming to MN Senate

(St. Pal, MN) – In response to changes in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Washington, a Minnesota state senator wants to create a Vaccine Advisory Council here to keep Minnesotans informed on science-based information on vaccines. DFL Senator Matt Klein of Mendota Heights says the bill would protect public health and “require health insurance companies to cover recommended vaccines so people aren’t priced out of them.” Klein says the bill should be introduced in the next couple of weeks, but he is expecting opposition from those who are against vaccines.

 

>>Mpls Construction Value Over $1B in 2025

(Minneapolis, MN) – Construction value in Minneapolis last year passed one billion dollars in permits for the 15th year in a row. Mayor Jacob Frey says the project is in the range of $7 million, with a total investment of $25.5 million in public housing improvements. This is through a partnership with the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority. The top 10 high-value projects included additions to North Commons Park, new construction of Native American Community Clinic and Housing, and a mechanical upgrade to an existing Xcel Energy data center. 

 

>>Speeding Drops Where Minneapolis Installed Cameras

(Minneapolis, MN) – Minneapolis is seeing early results from the speed cameras installed at five intersections. In the first three months after activation, the number of drivers going at least 10 miles per hour over the limit dropped by more than 50%. The number of motorists exceeding the limit by 20 miles per hour fell by nearly 60%. The city received legislative approval to run the pilot program through 2029 as part of a broader effort to reduce traffic deaths and serious injuries. A full report on the study will be presented to the Minneapolis City Council tomorrow.

 

>>St. Louis Park Man Charged with Multiple Felony Tax Crimes

(St. Paul, MN) – A St. Louis Park man is facing a dozen felony charges after prosecutors say he failed to file or pay state income taxes for six years. Richard Hoffman is charged with six counts each of failing to file individual income tax returns and willfully failing to pay income tax from 2019 through 2024. The complaint says Hoffman earned taxable income through his construction business, Midwest Custom Builders LLC, along with cash deposits and more than $2 million in gambling winnings. Investigators say Hoffman had previously filed tax returns. State officials say he owes more than $356,000 in income tax.

 

>>Wolves Anthony Edwards Named Player of the Week

(Minneapolis, MN) – Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards is the Western Conference Player of the Week in the NBA. It’s the third time in his career that Edwards has won the honor. Edwards finished the week averaging 28.7 points per game while shooting 45.7% from the floor. The Wolves won all three games in the week and now hold a 38-23 record. That’s good for fourth place in the Western Conference. The Wolves host Memphis tomorrow night.
